BRACHYPELMA Part 1: North of the Rio Balsas

Part 1: HMS Herald & the emilia mystery.

This is a two hour documentary shot on location, north of the Rio Balsas on the Pacific coast of Mexico. The first part of this film explores the mystery of why the type specimen of Brachypelma emilia was labelled as having been collected in Panama - and tells the story of its collection by the ships officers of the Royal Naval survey ship HMS Herald. Also included in Part 1 is the first location footage ever shot of Brachypelma hamorii, Brachypelma klaasi and Brachypelma baumgarteni. In the field, Andrew Smith compares B. hamorii with B. smithi, using material collected at the type sites.
